Ararat
The goldfields at Ararat were discovered by Chinese miners.
The Chinese were trecking from Adelaide to the Ballarat goldfields to avoid paying the Landing Tax placed on them by the Victorian government.
The tax was to discourage the Chinese from landing in Victoria and heading off to the goldfields.
