Avoca has at the present time got a population of about 1000 people.
In the Goldrush days there was about 15,000 people in the district.
Today the area produces some of the finest wool and wine the country has to offer.
The main street is about 50 metres wide, most of the older towns that have survived from the Goldrush days seem to have very wide streets.
